The aviation industry has committed to achieving net-zero carbon emission from their operations by 2050. Sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) are critical for the industry to decarbonize and the world is looking at ways of building and scaling SAF production. The Canadian Council of Sustainable Aviation Fuels (C-SAF) was created to advance the production and use of SAF in Canada.
Canada has enormous opportunities in the SAF supply chain: bountiful sustainable feedstock, existing refining capacity, innovative technology providers, and domestic and international airlines seeking to decarbonize. Building the whole supply chain would add value to the Canadian economy.
The challenge: how can Canada organize to capture these opportunities and convert them into a large and healthy SAF market that delivers long-term economic value-added across Canada?
The solution: A virtual engagement with a broad cross section of more than 50 C-SAF stakeholders across Canada to develop a vision, roadmap and action plan for the development of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF).
Travesia Partners was the lead facilitator and process designer for this initiative, which was completed in collaboration with the Energy Futures Lab and the Transition Accelerator.
The result of this 6 month project was the first-of-its-kind roadmap that charts a pathway and a strategy to produce SAF in Canada with Canadian feedstock, using made-in-Canada solutions that aim to promote Canadian technology.
This project won a Clean50 top project award.
“The success of our project depended on bringing together a broad range of interested parties from across the entire supply chain and getting them aligned around a vision and action plan to advance the production of sustainable aviation fuels in Canada. Pong was key in designing our workshops and facilitating difficult discussions to ensure maximum input from every project participant. Collaboration is key to advancing a clean economy and Pong is comfortable and an expert in creating and facilitating a welcoming and professional environment for competitive entities to work together.”
